Mobile Appointments

No app to install! — You can use Advising directly from your phone, without installing any apps: just browse to the URL provided by your institution, which will end like this:

Same menu — On logging in, you see the Dashboard view of shortcuts, but you can always get to all the same functionality that you have on your laptop by opening the 3-bar () menu at upper left of every top-level page:

Use the Calendar shortcuts on the main page to make, manage, and cancel your advising appointments and events:

These are the tasks you’ll do most often here:

  • Schedule an Appointment — Use the filters at left to view advisors’ available blocks, then tap on a block to see its appointment slots. Choose a slot and tap Schedule.
  • RSVP — Events may have headcount limits and the option to RSVP. Tap an event to RSVP (or watch for openings) and send any questions or comments to the host.
  • Copy to your Calendar — Touch an event and tap Download Event so that you can upload it (as an .ics file) to your personal calendar.

Get an Appointment

The mobile Calendar lists your existing appointments and events (including your completed ones) and lets you get new appointments.

Pro Tip
If you want to see the view of the entire appointment calendar, use Advising from your laptop.

When you tap Schedule a New Appointment (from the main page or the Calendar), you can pick who, what, where, when, how, and why you want to meet, so that you’ll only see appointment slots that will work for you:

  1. Select services — Either type in what you’re looking for (like “scholarship”), or tap and expand the services to find the one or two you need:

  2. Select advisors — Next, pick who you’ll meet with. It defaults to your assigned advisors only (if you have any), so you have to tap the drop-down and select anyone else you want to see.
If you’re willing to meet with whoever is open, tap the drop-down and select Select All:

  3. Date/time and days — Next, block out the times and days you prefer. You might need to undo this if it won’t return any appointments for you.
  4. Type — Next, choose Scheduled and/or Walk-in. If you choose Walk-in, you cannot sign up: you simply show up at that place and time (first come, first served). For virtual walk-in hours, make sure to find out how to log in for it.
  5. Modality — Next, you can reject any ways of meeting that won’t work for you (such as in-person).
  6. At any point, you can scroll down to and tap Show Results. If using Show Results doesn’t get you an open slot that you want, try removing some of your filters.

Change an Appointment

ReschedulingTo reschedule an appointment, take a new open slot and cancel the old one.

Tap View Appointment to open its details, to do any of these:

  • Download the appointment (so you can upload it into your personal calendar)
  • Add session notes and files (scroll down to see the fields and the Update button)
  • Cancel it (select Cancel Appointment)

Tap the ✕ to get out of the detail view:

Pro Tip ✔
Take time to leave clear notes and attachments for your advisor, so they can be ready to help you!

RSVP for an Event

Why RSVP to an event? When you RSVP, it secures your spot and makes sure that you get event notifications, in case it’s canceled, moved, or rescheduled.

Events that you are eligible to attend automatically appear on the Calendar for you. Select it to see the details and RSVP (look for Attending?):

If you are prompted to RSVP with YES or NO, it means that attendance is being kept and there may be a limit on attendees. If the event is already full, you will be able to opt in to be notified if a space becomes free. By selecting YES you’ll attend, you ensure that you will be notified of any changes or cancellations.

Use the Questions/Comments field to message the event host directly, and use Download Event to add it to your own calendar.

Download an Event

Advising lets you copy events (including appointments) to your own personal calendar by way of an ICS file. This file is a universal calendar format used by Microsoft Outlook, Google Calendar, and Apple Calendar (iCal).

  1. Open (select View Appointment) and tap Download Event.

  2. Using the .ics file you downloaded, upload the event directly to your calendar application.
For Google Calendar, go to Settings > Import & Export, and select your .ics file.
