Courses Overview

Course Insights reveal which undergraduate courses have the largest potential to affect persistence and graduation rates at your institution. It uses your institution’s historical course data to surface the courses that meet both criteria: high enrollment and high predictive power. Focusing on these courses, you can have the greatest impact.

Dig deeper — Course Insights help you understand how specific courses impact student success at your institution, as well as specific groups of students taking them. This means you can better answer questions about how courses affect certain demographics and majors, for example.

How it works

We ingest your institution’s historical and current term data into our Student Insights Engine, which renders actionable insights about your student’s persistence and graduation likelihoods into the Analytics interfaces. Course Insights then displays courses with the greatest potential for immediate and multi-term impact on student outcomes. For each course, you can quickly identify grade tipping points and target currently enrolled students to recommend timely resources.

Use Courses to optimize data to maximize insight to inform action and continue learning:

  1. Identify courses at key stages of your students’ careers that have the strongest impact on success likelihoods.
  2. Explore insights for each course, including the tipping point grades that affect persistence and graduation, and how they compare to those of other courses at your institution.
  3. Identify students currently enrolled as well as those who completed this course with a grade below the tipping point and take action while they are still enrolled at your institution.
  4. Optimize course offerings and pathways by using insights about the courses that most strongly impact student outcomes.

  • Discover which courses significantly impact persistence and graduation.
  • Break down the most predictive courses taken each year in the student’s academic career and see the course grades needed for students to have a better chance of persisting or graduating.
  • Filter to see which courses have the greatest impact on your target groups.
  • Gather Key Insights about a course, including how it differs from other courses taken in the same year and its potential impact on persistence and graduation.
  • Take action: Use student lists to find students currently enrolled in a course or active students who struggled with it in the past.
